Yeast or not yeast? That is the question

Updated: Sep 26, 2023

There's only so many things you can say about a nipple yeast infection (candidiasis). Speaking as a person who has had one, it is painful, and sucks. I was prescribed an all purpose nipple ointment, which isn't always a go-to. If your nipples have signs of a yeast infection, you will also want to check your baby's mouth. Baby's who have oral thrush can have white spots on the inside of their cheeks in their mouth, and a coated white tongue (noticeably more coated than what it looks like after they have had milk). Use washable nipple pads. Change them frequently. And get treatment. Don't wait. We want to prevent any type of infection whether it be bacterial or fungal, from worsening. Your breast health is important!

Now, for the poem. I'm not a poet, folks, but I tried. Laughter is the best medicine, right?

Nipples burning

Shooting pain

Close my eyes

Not again

Red and rashy

Hyperpigmented, flaky

Every latch I'm going crazy

White bumps

Coated tongue

Baby crying

Please be done

Itchy, scratchy

Treat this, treat that

Finally better

And got a good latch
